 Westhoughton
is most easily accessible from the M61 motorway. Leave at
junction 5, and follow signs to Westhoughton / St Helens /
Wigan. i.e. the A58.
After about half a mile along a dual carriageway, you will
come to a roundabout. Take the second exit (almost straight
ahead) and continue for about 2 miles, through two sets of
traffic lights. You can click here for a detailed map to guide you to the Golf Club from this
point (yellow route). The road will change from a normal "A"
road to a dual carriageway (Cricketers Way) after about 1
mile. As you approach the third set of lights, move to the
outside lane and turn right at the T-junction. Go past the
Red Lion Hotel and at the traffic lights turn left into School
Street. Go to the end of School Street and bear left down
the road which leads about half mile to the Golf Club.
From
the M6, the route is longer and more complicated. It will
take about 20 minutes from leaving the motorway.
Leave
the M6 at Junction 22, and follow the signs for Lowton / Leigh.
At the end of the country road (farmhouses "pick your
own" etc.) is a T-Junction and traffic lights. Turn right.
At
the second set of lights, you should be crossing the A580
East Lancs Road (Texaco filling station on the right). Continue
for about 3 miles, and just after passing a fire station on
your right you will reach a set of traffic lights. Take the
inside lane and turn left onto the Leigh Bypass (Atherleigh
Way). Continue for about 3 miles.
At
the third major set of traffic lights (ignoring pedestrian
crossings) turn left (signed Westhoughton / Wigan). This is
Lovers Lane. Proceed for about 1/2 mile to the next lights
and go "straight" (slightly left then right) through
the offset crossroads. Continue for another 2 miles until
the next traffic lights. You are now in Westhoughton. Click here for a detailed map which

Turn
left at these lights onto a dual carriageway (Cricketers Way)
until the next set of lights. Move to the outside lane and
turn right at the T-junction. Go past the Red Lion Hotel and
at the traffic lights turn left into School Street. Go to
the end of School Street and carry on down the road which
leads 1/2 mile to the Golf Club.
